Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2025
Short version: ZenTube collects no personal data. Your settings are stored locally on your device and never leave it. We have no servers, no analytics, and no accounts.
What ZenTube does
ZenTube is a Chrome extension that helps you use YouTube with less distraction. It can hide the homepage feed, remove Shorts, disable autoplay, hide sidebar recommendations, and track your daily watch time — all locally in your browser.
Data we collect
None. ZenTube does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information. Specifically, we do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any identifying information
- Your browsing history or the videos you watch
- Your location or IP address
- Clicks, keystrokes, or any behavioural analytics
- Any financial or authentication information
How your preferences are stored
Your extension settings (which features are enabled, your daily time limit, etc.) are saved using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.sync API. This stores data locally on your device and optionally syncs it across your Chrome browsers via your Google account — we have no access to this data at any point.
Permissions used
- storage — to save your feature preferences locally.
- host permission for youtube.com — to inject the content script that hides UI elements and tracks watch time on YouTube pages. The extension does not access any other websites.
Third-party services
ZenTube does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. No data is sent to any external server.
Children's privacy
ZenTube does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date. Because we collect no data, changes are unlikely to affect you.
